All About the 2025 AHSAA Class 1A-6A State Football Championships
The 2025 AHSAA Class 1A to 6A State Football Championships brought three packed days of energy to Protective Stadium in Birmingham. Fans showed up ready for close games, dramatic swings, and a few surprises.
The Class 1A final set the tone for the weekend. Maplesville and Wadley came in unbeaten, which made the matchup feel even bigger. Maplesville’s senior quarterback Pearce Yeargan stole the show early and never let go of it. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 331 yards and six touchdowns, then added 96 rushing yards and another score.
Wadley tried to adjust, but nothing slowed him down.
Maplesville’s defense backed him up with the same toughness it showed all year. The Red Devils had allowed just 3.2 points per game before the final, and they held strong again. The 42 – 22 win gave Maplesville its fifth football championship and its first since 2015.
Class 2A, Coosa Christian Scores Late

Sports Media / IG / Coosa Christian and Lanett traded scores for most of the game, which kept the crowd locked in.
Lanett brought a defense that gave up only 9.5 points per game, but Coosa Christian pushed back with sharp quarterback play from sophomore Mac Long.
However, the key moment came in the fourth quarter with the score tied at 22 to 22. Long spotted sophomore athlete Kylen Johnson sprinting downfield and launched an 85-yard touchdown pass that stunned Lanett.
Class 3A, Mars Hill Extends Its Run
The Class 3A final featured a familiar powerhouse. Mars Hill Bible entered as the defending champion and played like it. Bayside Academy arrived with a strong offense led by sophomore quarterback Davis Barnett, but Mars Hill’s rushing attack was too much to handle.
Running backs Hudson Higgins and Jaxon Penn, both committed to Division I programs, ran with purpose and control.
Mars Hill set the tone early, then leaned on its defense to protect the lead. Bayside scored, but never enough to threaten a comeback. The Panthers closed out a 38 – 21 win and secured their second straight title and third in four seasons.
Class 4A, Jackson Stuns Unbeaten Anniston
The Class 4A championship became the biggest surprise of the weekend. Anniston entered unbeaten with the top-ranked defense in the class, allowing just 11.2 points per game. Jackson stepped in, ready to challenge all of that and took control from the start. Running back EJ Crowell, an Alabama commit, pushed through gaps with ease and set the rhythm for the offense.
Quarterback Landon Duckworth added speed and accuracy that kept Anniston guessing. Jackson’s defense also played with fire, breaking up drives before they had a chance to build.
Class 5A, Moody Makes History
Moody arrived chasing its first state title in football, and it played with purpose from the first snap. The Blue Devils earned a 25 to 0 shutout over Vigor, which had one of the strongest defenses in the class.
Quarterback Jake Lowery kept the offense moving, and receiver Jalijah Rutledge came up with key catches that extended drives and broke open coverages.
Class 6A, Clay Chalkville Wins the Rematch

Sports Media / IG / The Class 6A matchup brought a rematch loaded with talent. Clay Chalkville and Saraland met again after the 2023 final, and both entered unbeaten at 14-0.
Clay Chalkville leaned on its high-scoring offense with quarterback Aaron Frye and running back Joshua Woods setting the pace. Saraland countered with a sharp passing game led by quarterback Jamison Roberts and star receiver Deshawn Spencer.
The early drives were tight, but Clay Chalkville adjusted faster. Its offense found the right spacing and moved the ball with confidence. Its defense made key stops when Saraland threatened to shift momentum. Clay Chalkville pulled away late and finished with a 38 – 21 win.
The 2025 championships added fresh chapters to a long Alabama football legacy. The AHSAA has hosted state playoff championships since 1966, and the Super 7 format has turned the finals into a December tradition. Programs like Clay Chalkville, Jackson, and Mars Hill have built steady dynasties, while this year brought new first-time champions like Moody and Coosa Christian.
