From breaking records at the 1976 Olympic Games to appearing on one of the most famous reality TV shows (KUWTK), Caitlyn Jenner has a list of unique career choices to her name. But the question is, are those enough to keep her satisfied? Well going by her recent bid to replace California Gov. Gavin Newsom, perhaps they're not!
In April 2021, Jenner announced that she would be running for the governor of California on a Republican ticket. She said she would fight for the benefit of the people of California who are struggling due to the pandemic. Hearing about her run, many political experts called it a publicity stunt. They said since she had an apolitical past, her chance of winning the elections is slim. But her family and friends have refuted the comments of her run being a celebrity fling. They call it the most genuine thing she’s ever done.
While celebrities entering politics is not a new thing in the Golden State, it is weird why someone at such a stable place in their life would take such chances. Don’t you think?
So why did Jenner enter politics?
Jenner, who previously supported Trump, was quoted as saying to Sean Hannity on Fox News, that when she saw her friends and neighbors leaving the state due to high taxes and homelessness, she was inspired to enter politics and improve that situation. Also, the condition of trans-women and their rights in the country pushed her to file documents for the 2021 California gubernatorial recall election. The 71-year-old ex-Olympian, who has been a sporadic voter herself, said on a CBS interview that she often talks to people at gas stations about the problems they’re facing.
In another interview, Jenner said that being a public figure has taught her many things about life. She recalled that she was the only one who had a platform to present her opinion when she came out. That's when she decided to talk about herself publicly.
Jenner continued that many were inspired after seeing her. They accepted themselves and started talking about their preferences with pride. Seeing this, she felt that she had achieved something huge in life.
She then stated that she wants to bring a similar change by becoming the governor. She wants to use her platform for people's betterment who have been suffering for a long time under the watch of Gov. Newsom.
Wrapping it up
Even though Caitlyn Jenner's intentions seem good, her win on a Republican ticket looks highly doubtful. For the past seven years, the democrats have been sourcing the governor of California. Another thing that's quite odd about her candidacy is that she hasn't flagged off any rallies, given any speeches, or made any public appearances except for those on TV shows. Either she's not serious about her candidacy, or she doesn't have much knowledge about this. Whatever might be the reason, we’re sure her run will be tough.
